Uzbek Foreign Minister recently held a meeting with Deputy Foreign Minister of Tajikistan Makhmadsharif Khakdod in Tashkent.
The sides reviewed delimitation and demarcation of the state border then.
Tajikistan on October 29 started construction of the world’s highest embankment dam. The Vakhsh River was blocked as construction of the Rogun hydropower plant kicked off.
Uzbekistan considers construction of this Rogun HPP in the Vakhsh River jeopardizes the water and climatic balance of the downstream nations.
The World Bank experts conducted a study on this issue and took a decision that the project does not pose any threat, which is stated by the Uzbek side. Uzbekistan, in turn, was dissatisfied with this study and keeps insisting that the construction of Rogun HPP in fact poses a serious threat and rejects the proposal of Tajikistan to participate in this project.
