Rail explosion suspends service between Tehran, Ankara

The Turkish government has accused the Kurdish group PKK of carrying out the attack.

Zamaneh – Train service between Tehran and Ankara has been suspended until further notice says a spokesman for the Iran Railway Company.

IRNA reported on Friday July 31 that Iranian transit authorities are currently awaiting input from their Turkish counterparts to resume the service.

On Thursday in Turkey’s Bingöl Province, the train tracks linking Tehran to Ankara, referred to as the Trans Asia line, were the scene of an explosion.

None of the 180 passengers was injured in the incident. The train’s supply wagon was damaged and, therefore, was left behind as the train continued on its route.

The Turkish government has accused the Kurdish group PKK of carrying out the attack. The group has not taken responsibility for it.

In the past week, the Turkish government resumed attacks on PKK positions. Before that, the government had been in peace talks with the Kurdish organization.
