A group of hardline Iranian MPs have floored a new bill in Majles that once passed will make the fingerprinting of Europeans who enter Iran a law.

The move comes after last week’s resolution by the European Parliament that makes respect for human rights the focus of all future diplomatic talks with Iran and calls for the opening of an office by EU in Tehran to monitor the issue.

MP Ismail Kousari has told the local media: “The 100 deputies involved in proposing this bill have decided to counter the EU’s action and it is only to be applied to those European officials who visit Iran. In case they [the EU states] decide to take any retaliatory measure against our action and fingerprint our nationals then we will come up with another measure against them”.

In protest to fingerprinting of Iranian officials who visit European countries Iran’s Majles has now cancelled a previously scheduled trip of its parliamentarians to Germany.
