MERNA – According to Mohabat News (Iranian Christian News Agency), Christian prisoner in ward 350 of Evin prison, Farshid Fathi, was transferred to Taleghani hospital on Sunday morning, April 20, after Revolutionary Guards beat him in prison.
Reports indicate that Pastor Farshid Fathi was transferred to Taleghani hospital in the morning of Sunday, April 20 to be treated for a broken toe and a joint injury. Pastor Fathi’s cellmates confirmed that authorities beat him causing several injuries on his body, including a broken toe and injured joints.
After visiting him and taking X-rays, specialist doctors at Taleghani Hospital found out that his toe was fractured. Doctors put a cast on his foot and said he will probably need surgery in a few weeks.
Earlier, 74 prisoners of conscience and political prisoners wrote a letter describing what they witnessed during the raid on April 17. Their letter said about Farshid Fathi that his left toe was swollen and that he could not move his joints in the areas of the beatings.
Iranian security authorities arrested Farshid Fathi at Christmas 2010 (December 26, 2010) in Tehran and a Revolutionary Court sentenced him to six years in prison for “being the chief-director of foreign organizations in Iran and gathering funds for these organizations”. Just like other Christian cases in Iran, Pastor Fathi’s case was also marked as political.
